Harvest

During the spring months we begin planting our seedlings.
Harvest then occurs in the hot summer months.
Due to our location in Southern NSW, we have the perfect conditions for growing tomatoes.
Tomato plants require a particular environment, this being fertile soil, low humidity and at least 8 hours of sunlight to produce quality fruit.

Growth & Sustainability
At Billabong Produce, we grow and own 100% of our crops.
Family members oversee all aspects of growth and production, leaving no room for error.
Using non-GMO seed varieties that have been germinated with our local nursery, we then transplant the seedlings.
By planting with this technique, we are able to reduce the growing time by 2 months, allowing us to also save our most precious resource; water.
The controlled environment decreases the chances of crop failure and increases the uniformity of the yield.

All of our tomatoes are grown using sub-surface drip irrigation. This computerised system works by delivering water directly to the root of the plant, which is the most efficient use of water.
This method is better for plant growth and the environment.
The family work alongside agronomist teams for research and trialling different seed varieties for the following year.
By trailing new seed lines, we are able to choose varieties that produce a higher yield, continuously striving for better ways to produce only the best.
By growing all of our own tomatoes, we are able to transport and process the very same day as harvest.
So you can be assured that our product only has the freshest tomatoes, just as you would when cooking a sauce at home.
